“Highlighting Performance Management,Enhancing Healthcare Quality” Tsinghua Changgung Hospital held 2014 Healthcare Reform and Development Forum

  (By Mary Huang)In order to implement the call of Chinese new healthcare reform policy and explore the reform and creative management of domestic public hospitals, Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital held the “2014 Tsinghua Changgung Healthcare Reform and Development Forum”.

  More than 300 distinguished guests from mainland, Taiwan and American political, academic, medical and media fields gathered together in Tsinghua University for having a discussion on medical reform related subjects like hospital management mechanism, hospital performance management and hospital quality improvement.

  Wang Zhihua, the vice secretary-general of Tsinghua University, hosted the opening ceremony. Jiang Shengyao, the vice president of Tsinghua University and Dong Jiahong, the chair of academic committee of Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital attended the opening ceremony and made opening speeches.

  Vice president pointed out, developing life science and medicine is the new centennial strategic plan of Tsinghua University. Tsinghua University has always kept close attention on national healthcare reform tendency while developing medical disciplines. Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital is expected to actively explore mainland healthcare reform with domestic and overseas policy makers and hospital managers and contribute to domestic public healthcare reform through holding this forum.

  

  In the keynote speeches sections, domestic and overseas experts lunched excellent speeches respectively. Dr. Wyatt Decker, the vice president of Mayo Clinic and CEO of Mayo Clinic Arizona, was warmly invited to lunch a speech titled “Implementation of the Patient Focused Medical Practice”. To show the cultural respect, Dr. Decker began his presentation with a famous motto from Lao Tzu, “I have just three things to teach: simplicity, patience, compassion. These three are your greatest treasures.” Then started with comparison with Mayo Clinic’s core value “The best interest of the patient is the only interest to be considered”, Dr. Decker shared Mayo Clinic’s strategic plan, model of care, safety, quality and how to improve patient’s experience. He made a conclusion that the patient focused medical center must be embedded in the culture of the organization, governance and process support should reflect this culture. Besides, data should be used to measure and improve performance in quality, safety, service and cost.

  Guo Minghe, the CEO of Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital, who has accumulated 30 years’ experience in Taiwan Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, lunched his valuable speech titled “Operation Philosophy and Performance Management”. CEO Guo elaborated the “reward form the society, dedicate to the society, cure the patient with humanity, patient comes first” operation philosophy and “electric forms, uniform system, systematic management” management philosophy. Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital adopts Taiwan Chang Gung’s medical mode for expecting to be the domestic public hospitals reform trial unit.

  This forum also invited lots of distinguished guests like Vice President of Chinese Academy of Engineering Fan Daiming, vice director of National Health and Family Planning Commission Academician Wang Chen, Vice Director of Beijing Municipal Administration of Hospitals Lv Yiping, Chief of Heart Center of Mayo Clinic Arizona Win-Kuang Shen, President of Zhongshan Hospital Fudan University Fan Jia, President of The First Teaching Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University Wen Hao,and Assistant President of West China HospitalCheng Yongzhong and other renowned specialists to make productive and informative speeches.

  In the end, Professor Dong Jiahong shared his ending remarks.”This forum establishes a platform where both domestic and overseas advanced experience can be communicated and interacted. The excellent culture and experience shown by the presenters and critics will be bound to facilitate the improvement of our healthcare quality”.
