After intense competition, Yang Lei, a postgraduate student at the Center of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Sciences of Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital affiliated to Tsinghua University , has been awarded Trainee champion of Golden Scalple Award with the highest Trainee score for his outstanding performance.

In the 4-day competition, Yang Lei skillfully completed the racing knot, endothelial suture and various laparoscopic skills, winning the on-site judges' recognition with excellent performance. "The challenge was mainly laparoscopic operation. The solid training in the hospital and the perfect and rigorous teaching in the classroom played a key role. The achievement was inseparable from the strict requirements and careful guidance of the supervisor Yan Jun." Yang Lei said.
As the only unit in Beijing to attend, the latest scientific research achievements in the fields of thyroid and breast surgery and hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, led by Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital and Tsinghua University, were exhibited on posters throughout the conference, which received extensive attention and high evaluation from international peers, fully demonstrating the research strength of the hospital in the field of surgery. Among them, the transarterial fluorescence navigation laparoscopic hepatic resection demonstrated by the team of Academician Dong Jiahong and Yan Jun, president of our hospital, is the first in China and in the international leading level.
ISW is a world-class surgical conference hosted by the World Surgical Association (ISS), which was first held in 1905 and is held every two years. This year's conference attracted more than 2,500 surgical experts from more than 100 countries and regions to explore new breakthroughs and standards in surgical technology, advance patient-centered solutions, and jointly face the future challenges of surgical diagnosis and surgery.
