（Written by  Q.X.LIANG）Recently, the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd), in collaboration with the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong (CSHK), officially confirmed in a joint letter that the Higher Surgical Training (HST) Programme in General Surgery at Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital Affiliated to Tsinghua University has successfully passed the joint review. The programme has been accredited for FRCS (Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons) Higher Surgical Training. This milestone marks a significant step forward for the hospital in building a training and assessment system for young physicians aligned with international standards.

In the review report, the expert panel fully affirmed the base’s four-year HST curriculum plan. Centered on multi-dimensional training objectives covering clinical practice, scientific research, and professional competence, the plan features a well-designed training structure, a comprehensive evaluation and assessment system, and excellent training conditions. The programme is solidly underpinned by abundant case and disease resources, an outstanding international faculty, advanced clinical skills training platforms, a well-established operational support mechanism, and a robust postgraduate medical education management system.

Tracing the programme’s development, the hospital was first accredited as an RCSEd/CSHK surgical training base in 2020, and has since selected over ten outstanding young physicians for training. In October 2025, Dr. Chen Lin successfully passed the Hong Kong Intercollegiate Board of Surgical Colleges (HKICBSC) examination, becoming the first at the hospital to obtain the Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MRCSEd). In March 2026, the base welcomed the RCSEd-CSHK JSF programme accreditation inspection.

Moving forward, the hospital will continue to deepen its collaboration with RCSEd and CSHK. In line with the MRCS and FRCS international training standards, it will steadily advance the standardization of training curricula, strengthen process assessment and management, optimize incentive mechanisms, and further align training quality with international benchmarks, exploring a distinctly Tsinghua pathway for cultivating internationalized surgeons.
